Rename My TV Series – Version 2.3.0 released!

Rename My TV Series – Version 2.3.0 released!
   18

As of today, there is (finally) a new version of Rename My TV Series available for Windows (64bit), macOS (Universal binary), and Linux (GTK and QT5 for x64).

It has taken several years for me to find time to finally complete the implementation of most feature requests and bug fixes.
Some of the major ones are the update to the TVDB API 4, support dark theme for Windows (kind-a), Universal binary for macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon), and much more.

You can find this beta version on the Rename My TV Series page.
On this page you will also find a detailed list of the implemented changes.

    Hi Hans

I submitted a comment abut 20 minutes ago.  I uninstalled V2.18 Beta and V2.3.5 and manually removed items that were left over.

I then reinstalled the 64 bit version V2.3.5 which installed successfully but it reinitialised the database which is no big deal.

    Thanks anyway

    Regards

    John

      Hi John,

sorry for the delayed response. Removing the old stuff is a good idea in general, this way there will be no left over files and the database will start nice and clean (probably better optimized that way, just not sure if it would make a noticeable difference).

Thank you for posting your fix

p.s. if you don’t like the dark mode (if it detects that): you can disable this at the bottom of the Preferences window. Dark mode seems to work best with Windows 11, with Windows 10 it may depend on the exact version on how well it will look (older Windows 10 versions may keep the buttons light, as a user reported).

Just got the new version (2.3.9) and very hopeful. Lots of nice additions. That being said, every time I try to rename anything I get this error pop up that says it failed to rename the files. Yet, it says failed, gives an error, BUT it actually does the rename. So not sure what/why it’s doing that or how to fix it feeling like there’s an error. I have METADATA settings disabled, files are not already named what i’m trying to rename to, etc etc.

    Summary:

    10 Media Files: 10 failed.

    No extra files found.

    NOTE:

-For file error details, checkt eh AutoDetect Log window.

-Skipped files, often indicate that a file already had the same name.

Failed files can be triggered several reason (wrong, access rights, adding METADATA to invalid video files, conflicting files, etc)

      Hi Devon,

sorry to hear you’re running into issues.

Since you’re the first one reporting this, and since I am unable to reproduce the issue (tested on macOS and Windows), could you post more details (preferably in the RMTV forum section)? Info like: what OS and OS version are you using, where are the files stored (local disk, NAS, USB disk), and maybe some filename examples. Maybe some output of the AutoDetect log (in the menu you can find the option to open the AutoDetect Log window).

Please do not post long texts here, this to not bother other users with a lot of text. Again: preferably use the forum.

Tip: you can select the text in the popup window and copy the content of the message.

Thank you for the update, however, dates appear to be off in the preview.  While %D shows the date in the formatter as YYYY-MM-DD, but shows as (DD-MM-YY  <- yes short format). in the preview on the episode list before you click rename files.  Please synchronize the formats correctly and show the correct ones in preview.  Honestly, it would be better to have the ability to access the blocks of a date to make your own. blocks: %dd %mm %yy and %yyyy  then ie:  %mm-%yy would create a month-year formatted short date where we don’t need the day for first broadcast.

if that doesn’t happen, it would be nice to have the formats synced and have the date format follow the host system’s format.  ie: America – >. mm-dd-yyyy.  where euro and others are dd-mm-yyyy or yyyy-mm-dd etc.

    Thank you

      Hi Peter,

Did some testing and can confirm that this appears to be the case. Nice catch!
So at least that needs to be fixed.

As for your suggestion – let me see how much time this would take to implement so I can include this in the next release.
I think I’d prefer %D to work as displayed in the help (YYYY-MM-DD), and add a Year (%YY and %YYYY), Month (%MM) and Day (%DD) as an option,.
Let me see when I can carve out some time to look into this.

Thanks.  Appreciate the fast response and update.

I did catch one more bug, but will make a new thread.

Found the bug: SQLite (in the newer version) returns the date string differently than before and interprets the string as a date and converts it to whatever format is defined. Date is now retrieved differently.

Also added the %DD, %MM, %YY and %YYYY option in the format string.

Will try to release this version today.

Uploaded 2.3.10 just now which should address the bug and introduces the requested extra data parameters.

Found a new bug in the pull data from file.  It appears that the last file in the list seems to have the data from the file skipped somehow.  I turned off ffprobe and of course, no info populated the list. When I turned it back on, the complete list seemed to get the data filled in correctly.

However, when I cleared all, then added a new list of files to the selected files, then added the episodes to the episodes list, the behavior repeated.  It appears the last file in the list does not appear to receive the ffprobe data back. Not sure if the data is being cleared before the routine for setting the variables is called or it’s just exiting the loop too early.

Let me know if you need an alpha tester.  ;-)

I took a screen shot but this editor doesn’t allow for image uploads. If we are going to use this comment section for an impromptu bug reporter, perhaps an editor that allows for images uploads would be helpful so we can send screen shots.  just an idea. Or, as I see above, you have a forum.  I’ll switch over to there from now on, if there is a bug report section. Thanks

      Hi Peter,

thank you for reporting the bug – I’ll try to find some time to see if I can reproduce this.
Image uploads had to be blocked here, too many spammers (and some – now banned – users as well) used to post inappropriate pictures. So fr pictures we have to divert to the forum. There is a special sub topic for RMTV, but new members can post pictures only after 3 approved posts which is a default forum setting which can be inconvenient. (here)

The bug could be something simple like me counting from 1 to n-1 instead of 1 to n (usually arrays and such are 0 to n-1). I’ll try to find the bug

Thats what I figured on images.  Sucks that some ruin it for all.

As for the bug.  It feels like it is definitely that.  instead of for each x in y…. it does feel like a 0 based loop, etc.  And where it’s calling the routine. But then when I add one item only, it works. see below:

If this helps, I am able to “manually fix” the last listing by removing it, then adding it back in from the list.  So it works if only one item is added.  So no sure if you handle the “list” of items differently if its singular item instead of multiple items in the list (ie > 1).  Once they all display fine, when i click rename, it works as expected.

Just downloaded and tried 2.3.12 and bug still there.  This is my rename pattern in case it has something to do with the vars I am choosing, etc.

            %N – S%SZE%EZ[-S%SZE%EZ] – %T – (%V %A %C) – %F

So, an interesting thing happened when i went into preferences and checked the pattern for renaming.  I didn’t touch any of the settings, and simply clicked CLOSE button after copying the pattern for you. Voila, the list refreshed and it renamed all of them correctly and didn’t drop out the vars on he last entry.

I appears this bug seems to trigger when the list is first added to the selected episodes section.

            Thanks for tackling this.

Only appears to happen when I do this:

        – disable AutoDetect
        – Select a show
        – Add episodes to Selected Episodes
        – Drop (or Add) files to Selected Files

Then the episode numbering runs one out of pace with the file numbers. Debugging this right now.
