I've been wondering about this for quite a while now, and finally noticed this little well hidden option on my iPhone to translate whatever I type to whatever language I prefer.
This works for any iOS application that utilizes the default keyboard.
1) Type your text in your native language
2) Select the text
3) in the menu that pops up, select "Translate" (you will need to scroll to the right), which opens a window
4) In the window you can select the target language (or the detected language in case that wasn't the correct language)
5) And finally you can click "Replace with Translation" (may have to scroll down a little)
