Hi Mart584,
I'm currently not near my Amazon Fire TV, but from what I've read so far, you'll have to enable the audio (Dolby Digital Plus if I'm not mistaken) in the "Setting" -> "Audio" -> "Dolby Digital from Optical" menu of your Amazon Fire TV.
It is said that DD+ should be backwards compatible with regular Dolby Digital. But I cannot test this at the moment, but I do hear a lot of folks complain about it when it comes to the Amazon Fire TV. Amazon seems aware there might be a problem.
See also this discussion at Amazon. Hope this helps.

Hi, Thanks for that. I have tried the settings, no good.Seems there might be a bug in the fire so to speak.

When I read the comments at Amazon, I'd for sure say there is a fire-bug ...
Do you have the means to just use HDMI?
On my setup (Yamaha home theatre) everything runs through that receiver, and I use CEC to return TV audio to the receiver as well.
When I tried optical, I found audio to be out of sync (I did not test this with the Amazon Fire TV though).

I don't know how the Amazon fire tv box works now. I feel that installing Amazon Fire TV is not easy, especially when its user guide is confusing. I chose to add a portable projector to my home theatre. Is there any recommendation? I also want to use it in the party, it can be cool.

Setting up an Amazon Fire (stick or box) should be easy on any TV, Monitor or Projector with a HDMI connector.
The box comes with a separate power supply, and the stick can be powered through USB (if the USB does not provide enough power, an included power supply can be used).

Make sure that the TV and receiver are connected using an HDMI cable. Connect the cable to the HDMI port that is labeled ARC or the port identified in your manual that supports ARC. Turn on the Control for HDMI setting on both the TV and the receiver or home theater system.
