I seem to have run out of edit option for above post ( I Post then review, and find a bunch of typos/omissions; I know, I should review BEFORE posting)
I just wanted to point out more clearly that the Zero Chill tmdb issue is obviously none of your fault.
Ā
I felt it was important it could not be taken as criticism aimed at you
I see now what you mean with the titles being different. I would think the TheMovieDB titles you're seeing right now for "Zero Chill", are just place holders?
As for TVDB ... yeah ... about that. As a developer, I am getting tired even hearing "TVDB" 🤣 .
They are really not handeling changes very well, they do not notify API key holders about changes, and their server reachability can be problematic as well. What is worse, there is hardly any explanation on the difference between the different API's.
Probably why some applications even steering away from TVDB (KODI for example prefers TheMovieDB, JellyFin is considering spinning up their own DB, etc).
Looking at the options for v4; I can pay a subscription for the application or I can require users to have a paid subscription. Since this is all just a hobby, I do not want to pay for an API key, for an application I hardly use myself.
I just created a v4 API Key, but I'm not quite sure if I want to put the time and effort into this one. It looks like implementing the subscription model could be do-able, but it would break the old v2 API access right away, but even just for testing I would need a paid subscription - which I refuse to do.
With all this I'm considering dropping TVDB ... but I'm sure there will be users that are not going to be happy about this. I'll have to put this on the side for a minute, so I can calmly think about the options.
you are already providing us, not such noble users, a great user friendly app, best of its kind, and true freeware, along with friendliest and best support around bar none.
All this in an endless sea of pseudo freewares that are more actually stripped down nagware (prompting users 10x times a day to go for "pro" version), with either no support, or the rude flavor.
What more can we ask of you ? Should one raise his hand and says " Yeah, he should pay so we don't have to" I will personally go to his house and install your beta* (yes, same old running gag 🤣Ā
Ā
One and a half question if I may:
What if you don't update your side of the api thing, would that stop to work eventually ?
And what the heck is an API ? If you could share a link that explains it well enough and without requiring 20 years of computers education. Wiki not so great with the later.
Ā
PS: I was a click away to buy you a cup of coffee (I'd rather offer a beer 🤪 ) via Paypal, but could not see beforehand if it was a one shot deal or some kind of subscription.
EDIT: I am happy to see you've dropped fFLawedttterR, or whatever their name was. Tru them, I sent you a token of my extreme, but I think you never saw a dime of it, which sucks big time for both of us
Ā
Ā * For anyone else reading this and wondering, there is absolutely, positively, 200% sure, nothing wrong with the beta of RMTVS, quite the opposite !
(its just a running gag Hans and I share, based on his wickedly funny beta disclaimer )
What if you don't update your side of the api thing, would that stop to work eventually ?
Yes it will simply break and no longer work - possibly cause errors, or empty results.
An API (Application Programming Interface) is basically a set of defined methods to interact with a service, system, library or a program. It basically defines the available instructions (like search or retrieve data), how to use these instructions (eg. login first, then do a search), the expected result format (if any), and how one "talks" to said service (for this example: over HTTPS, a certain URL).
So this defined language can change over time, as the offered functions/services change. For example, with API v2 and v3 we only needed an API key which grants us access to the API functions. This was a key, specific for a program.
With v4 they added a layer; not only does the program need an API key, but the user also needs a subscription key. This means that the login method for the API changed, and also implies that there will potentially be more possible outcomes (errors etc) than before.
Nope, this is not a subscription ... I personally hate subscriptions (not on the receiving end of course hahaha). With PayPal, you will be shown if something is a subscription - even though I feel it could be displayed more clearer at PayPal.

Flatter, or what ever it was, indeed is still holding some of the money that was given to me (about $150)Ā 😞Ā But they are not allowing me to transfer it to my bank account 😞Ā
Well after many years ... I tried transferring again just now (thanks for your reminder!) and it seems like they allowed it this time. I'll have to wait 2-7 days before it gets in my bank account ... fingers crossed.
Sense of humor is to people what oil is to an engine
Haha Sense of humor is a must, especially these days when folks tend to focus too much on negative things.
As for quoting: select the text and a little button will appear to "quote" and it will add it to your message 😊Ā
On that note: I just found out that I can actually paste images in a message hahah. This forum (wpForo) is a little different, but I do like it much better than the old one (bbPress).
