I had this error when installing an application on my Apple Silicon Mac M1 I

"There is no application set to open the document 'Instal XYZ.pkg'"

To fix this: select "Choose Application", and go to /System/Library/CoreServices where you select Installer.app.

You still may need to click "Allowed" if the PKG wasn't signed, but at least it will install.

Where is "choose applications" and "system/library/core services" on Mac?

"Choose Application" is something that was shown in the popup dialog when double clicking a PKG file.
If you do not get this message then you will not need this trick.

However, if you do not get this message and the PKG does not install, then in Finder right click the PKG file and select "Open With" from the menu and browse to /System/Library/CoreServices and select Installer.app.
