For those who use Windows 8 or newer, you might have ran into the so called "Windows 8 Mode" of Google Chrome. In this mode, Chrome (browser, apps, and desktop) are now screen filling - not what I'd like to see!
Disabling this mode took a few minutes to find, but it's there.
Open the Google menu (the3 horizontal striped button, in the upper right corner), and choose “Relaunch Chrome on the Desktop", and Chrome will now restart in the old fashion windowed mode.
Want to go back to "Windows 8 Mode"? No problem - in the same location you will now see the option to switch to Windows 8 mode ...

If you're looking for a browser that uses less memory, while remaining compatible with Google and Chrome plugins, then consider using Brave Browser.
It also contributes to safer browsing and blocks ads (including in YouTube).
If this is not needed, then take a look at Opera.
Opera has been around for quite a while already and is known for its speed en small size.
