Sometimes a VM goes haywire and it seems impossible to shut it down ... well, there is an option, it is just hidden very well ...

To force a virtual machine to power off:

  1. From the VMWare Fusion menu bar, select the Virtual Machine menu.
  2. Press and hold the Option (Alt) key.
  3. You'll see some options in the menu changing: Restart becomes Reset, and Shutdown becomes Power Off.

Even when your VM doesn't show the "Shutdown" option, it will show the Power Off option!

- Do your shopping at Amazon, it will not cost you anything extra but may generate a small commission for us,
- send a cup of coffee through PayPal ($5, $10, $20, or custom amount),
