Since the past few releases, I keep getting these very annoying messages when I start VLC, saying that its rebuilding the font cache.
It's not only horrendously slow, but sometimes it even freezes or crashes VLC.
To disable this message, do the following:
Got to the "Preferences" menu and click the "Show all" button.
Next, go to "Video" -> "Subtitles / OSD" and change the "Text rendering module" to "Dummy font renderer" and click the "Save" button.
Not sure if it's needed, but I'd restart VLC after that.
