Hi - this is my first time posting...
I was backing up a RPi image and accidently reformatted an external expansion drive with the bootable image, losing all the data in the process...
Is there a way I can restore the data on the expansion drive?
I wrote the retropi image to the external expansion drive with Apple Pi Baker.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Snorks!
Oh wow, I feel your pain ... 😞
Last time I had to recover files, after formatting a disk, I used R-Studio (available for Windows, Mac and Linux) - but its not free ($50 at the moment).
Bottom line is that under certain circumstance files are not deleted, but the reference to the files have been removed. Tools like R-Studio will try to recover the references to those files. Now having said that: tools like R-Studio will find anything that may be file, so the file could be something that was deleted before, or the recovered file is damaged or even corrupt. If it finds something you'll find yourself potentially digging through tons of files.
My advise: if the data can be re-downloaded or something like that then I'd rebuild the data from scratch instead of doing a file recovery. There is no easy fix unfortunately 😞
