Timing is everything - is that not what they say?Ā Ā
Good to hear though that it is making the task easier for you! 👍Ā

Unless I misunderstood I was under the impression that we could name multiple episode files with the name, episodes, and titles of the combined episodes. If we can I'm not getting how to. I have the below. Thanks

Ā

Lincoln.Rhyme.Hunt.for.the.Bone.Collector.S01E09-E10.HDTV.x264-SVA.mkv

OK finally puzzled it out, it's pretty cool. Now one question is there going to be a way to set the file name format for multi-episode files?Ā

Ā

What I have:Ā  Lincoln Rhyme Hunt For The Bone Collector 2020 S01E09x10 Open Warfare (1).mkv

Ā

What I'd Like:Ā  Lincoln Rhyme Hunt For The Bone Collector 2020 S01E09E10 Open Warfare.mkv

Ā

The (1) I can just edit out my self.

Cool haha.

Yeah some of the changes probably need some better instructions.

For naming files with multiple episodes:
You can change the filename format to:

%N %Y S%SZE%EZ[E%EZ] %T

The block between square brackets is the block that gets repeated for the "next" episode.
You can make multiple repeat-blocks, eg. the following to repeat the title of the "next" episode.

%N %Y S%SZE%EZ[E%EZ] %T[,%T]

These repeat-blocks will repeat for every episode, so if you merge 3 episodes you'd see the blocks repeated for the 2nd and 3rd episode, etc.

Looks like when I merged the two Lincoln Rhyme episodes RMTV automatically changed the format I had to %N %Y S%SZE%EZ[E%EZ] %T with an x that I changed to a E them I just changed to %N %Y S%SZE%EZ[E%EZ] %T[,%T]. Either works like a charm.Ā

On another note the TVDB was having issues again yesterday. Love the fact that I simply could deselect it as a source.Ā

Would also like to know if I search for say FBI since I've already renamed one episode and it's now in TV Show History already if RMTV searches through TV Show History first?

Hmm, we better keep an eye on the multi-episode renaming then.
I just went through the code but couldn't find anything that would change the format.
But that is never a guarantee 😉Ā

Also note that multi-episode files will not be handled correctly by AutoDetect.
AutoDetect will always assume one episode.

As for your history question;
I initially wanted to do this, but the main reason I didn't is that stuff may be in History that could conflict, or actually be the wrong show.
This is why I've added the hard link option.
On that note: in Settings āžœ Generic & AutoDetect Settings, you can check the option "Add matches to hard links", which will automatically make hard links for found matches. The down side of that will be that even wrong matches may be added, which again is the reason why I've added the option to manually add them (right click the "Selected Files" and you'll see some options there).

As you can see; there are quite a few but's and if's with the AutoDetect.
If only AutoDetect could be 100% perfect then none of these exceptions would be needed.
I have tested AutoDetect with about 500 random filenames that I found online, and most will work - just a few exceptions will bear AutoDetect.
Typically: names that appear in multiple different shows, episodes with too many or too few numbers in it, etc.

Well there must be something in it more changing the code cause I had none of those brackets, but when I went into settings to input what you posted they were there. To me it's not a issue, since it save me a step. As for auto search drag your multi episode file to RMTV,, let it find the show, it will populate the first column with the first episode of the file, then from the episode list add the second episode, the select both episodes from in the one column, rightclick and chose merge. Maybe for multi episode files it doesn't work the way you intended but it does work, and in my book very nicely.

Ā

On the history question ok was just curious. Now if I hardlink is it per show or does that become the default for all shows? I'd prefer per show since most will come up correctly with the auto search.Ā

Default it has the brackets in it, unless preferences are imported or the user overrides it.
And by default it would have the "x" in it 🙂Ā

Glad to hear you're satisfied with the multi-episode situation - I personally use it rarely, so it's more of a request by users than anything else.Ā

You can have the hard links added all automatic (I wouldn't recommend that) whenever a matching show/episode is found.
You can also manually add all at once, that matched and currently in the episodes/files lists right now.
Or ... you can add just one line that matches.

I'd probably use the second approach more often.
If I see a mismatch, I'd remove that row first anyway.
Then everything that remains, with a matching show/episode, will then be added with a simple click (errr right click and left click haha).
Obviously the rows that do not have a match will be skipped.
Come to think of it: in case you added an episode to match a file, then this match would be included as well.

Yea It was dumb luck needing the multi-episode feature. Now a days most people do not combine multiple episodes into one file. the last two episodes of season 1 of Lincoln Rhyme is the first time in a very long time I've seen them merged, so your timing on adding the feature was very good. So you're saying I can just assign a hardlink for FBI and leave the rest to auto detect?

Yep, assign FBI and leave the rest for what it is.
Select the row that matched, right click, "Add match from selected row (1)".

The reason why you could also add the other successful matches is to speed up AutoDetect even more.

Basically what AutoDetect does:

1) Detect Show Title, Season and Title
2) Check if Show Title can be found in the hard links (if yes: find season and episode -> done)
3) Check if something matching the Show Title can be found in the local database (if yes: find season and episode -> done)
4) Check if we can find the Show Title online (if yes: find season and episode -> done, ... else fail).

As you can see, using hard links would avoid the slower 2nd step, and the even slower 3rd step.
Steps 2 and 3 are a little fuzzy when trying to find a matching Show Title, and could fail if too little or too many results are returned.

Kust went to test hardlink with FBI and noticed that instead of RMTV making the show name FBI RMTV made it Fbi. That wasn't happening under 5.0.1. The 3 databases have it as FBI not Fbi, so must be something with RMTV.

That is probably related to the option "Capitalization".
In Settings āžœ Renaming Rules āžœ Renaming Options āžœ Capitalization: Filename.
Set it to "Do not change".
Right now it is probably set to something else (eg. First character first word, or First Letter All Words).

Just tested it to make sure... it probably is that particular setting.

Haha, well, if you really want it, it could introduce something like "cap every first letter of each word and leave the rest alone" ....?
Which would make more sense to me anyway. 😋Ā
