OK decided not to wait to test. redownloaded season 1 of The Outsider after configuring RMTV 2.10 to my liking. Simply open the folder for the season, selected all, dragged to RMTV, and it autoselected the show and auto populated the first column. DAMN NICE, damn nice indeed. Notice the application window is a little smaller as well. Fantastic job so far. Not too shabby for a beta. Very glad I chose to be one of your guinea pigs.

Awesome! 👍

A compliment like this, from an experienced and critical user, really means a lot! 😊

It still is a beta, since with all the changes, it becomes hard to keep testing all the little details.

As you may have seen; the AutoDetect has 2 ways of working;

  1. Just toss anything on it, and it will try to figure out what it whats
  2. Select a TV Show and limit the matching to just that TV Show ("Settings" - "AutoDetect Settings" - "AutoDetect only for selected TV Show").
On the main window, this mode will be indicated by an asterisk next to the "AutoDetect" toggle.

Additionally, AutoDetect can be forced by hard linking a found TV Show title to a fixed show/provider.

So for example, "Mash - 01x05 - The Moose" will not be detected as an episode of "M*A*S*H", and hovering over a file (in "Selected Files") will show what the detected title was ("mash"). Right click the file, select "Copy Detected Show title", go to settings "AutoDetect Options" and click add.

You can now paste the title in the "Show Title" column, and select the TV show in the "Linked to Show" column (the TV show has to be known first though, so you'd have to search it first). So now we can link "mash" to "M*A*S*H".

A little cumbersome, but a life saver for shows that are not named correctly.
I still have to figure a more user friendly method for this.

Additionally, you can also auto link show titles to specific shows - which makes AutoDetect very fast for shows it already knows.

Note: instead of selecting all files, you can also drop a directory or even a directory tree on it, but I'm sure you already knew this.

So with the last part of your post i cam drop say the parent folder for Dynasty ans RMTV will rename every episode automatically using my naming convention? I like that cause I use to do "show sxxexx episode name" and i've recently started including the year the show started, which gives me a lot of past seasons without the in in the episode naming. If I read you right I now have a very easy way to fix this now. Peeps are going to really be happy with this new release.

Yep, dropping your directory on RMTV should do the trick ... 😊

AutoDetect should do the trick, if it recognizes the show.
If you want to make 100% sure it picks "Dynasty" as the matching show, and have detection go faster, you can either:

1) Enable "AutoDetect only for selected TV Show", search for Dynasty, and drop the directory on it (fast)
2) Hardlink Dynasty to the Show and provider you prefer (fastest).

With just using AutoDetect, you could theoretically you could even toss your entire TV-Shows directory on it - but I wouldn't recommend that when having a lot of shows and episodes. You'd end up with a huge list, which (with AutoDetect) may or may not pick all the shows correctly - and I'd always double check what AutoDetect made out of that haha. 😬

But with auto come one issue. Below is a thread I created on TorrentGalaxy. As you can see not only is one of the titles wrong they are in the wrong order as well.

As much as I love the auto features it can be a problem as well. Below is a copy of a post I made on TorrentGalaxy a few days ago. I think Once you read it you'll see what I'm referring to.

Looking for S01E02, S01E03, S01E04, and S01E05 of Amazing Stories 2020. It supposedly aired 2 days ago but so far all I've been able to get is S01E01. Thanks

EDIT:

After doing some more searching it looks like the TVBD and thus Trakt.tv has this wrong. They have it as airing all at once when it looks to be one episode a week. They have these episode titled: The Cellar, Boogey Night, Dynoman And The Volt, The Rift, and Signs Of Life. The actual episode titles are: The Cellar, The Heat, Dynoman And The Volt, Signs Of Life, and The Rift.

Well, first it may be good to know that at the bottom of the main window, you'll see "CodecDetect", "AutoSort" and "AutoDetect".
These do not only indicated that these options are on or off, but you can also click them to temporary toggle them on/off. 😋

As for the wrong episode numbers, yeah I've seen that with other shows as well ... (I think Supergirl is one of those when it just started).  😣

In your case you may want to checkout TMDB or TVMaze - another reason to hard link a show, this way always that particular show of that particular provider will be used. On that note: Just tried it and noticed that TheTVDB may have correct their mistake (force refresh) ....

I don't need to force refresh since only episode 1 is out and it was correct on The TVDB, and I had used version 2.0.1 to rename that episode. I noticed either Saturday or Sunday that they fixed the air dates. Just took a look at the episode names in DuckieTV and you're right The TVDB has also corrected them.

OK a update. Just copied RMTV to my roommates machine cause he's also running Manjaro. Set RMTV up like on my machine. Then I attempted to drag 6 episodes from 6 different shows and it froze. I ended up closing it, relaunching it, and dragging each episode one by one, for 5 of them the auto feature found the correct show / episode / and episode name, the 6th on it would not, hand to manually search for it.  THat's still pretty good for a beta. The show was FBI 2018.

Cool, and good to hear feedback on the freeze ...

Makes me wonder why it froze though - since doing drag and drop uses the exact same code for 1 file versus multiple files.
(The OS passes a list of files, which can have 1 or more items in the list - the function just goes through the list and handles each file in sequence)

Where you able to see if it happened during AutoDetect?
Where the files local or from a network drive?

Also, do you have the original filename of the one that failed?
I'm trying to keep track so I can modify the regular expression if needed 😊

Tip:

You can hover over a filename (in "Selected Files") to see some info on what happened during AutoDetect.
There is also a the option to open a debug window with some info on the AutoDetect steps (more intended for myself).
I've set the shortcut key to F3 to open that window, but you can also find it under the "About" menu.
The menu may not be visible though.

Oh and "FBI" would be one of those shows that is nearly impossible to AutoDetect (hence the "hard link" option).
There are just too many shows with a similar name ... 😕

I'm willing to bet the free was because of FBI. I bet if when I tried the second time instead of dragging one at a time I had dragged the five it wouldn't have froze. Yes it was during auto detect. I launched RMTV, selected the six episodes, dragged them to RMTV, and it just sat there, at that point I couldn't use any of the functions. The files are on a 128 Gig SSD connected via USB 3.0. Give me abit to see if I can find the original file name, I thought of that myself AFTER I renamed it. FBI.S02E17.HDTV.x264-SVA.mkv, grabbed it from the RMTV log file. I figured I would have to use the hard link option for FBI. Now I'm glad you added it. Let me know if you need any more info, or if I missed covering something from you last two post.

I'll admit that I've added the hard links out of frustration haha ... 😋
Creating a "catch-all" regular expression is nearly impossible (never say impossible though).

There are a few shows that show this behavior ...

Also: hard links make detection much faster, but you probably already discovered that.
And don't forget; there is the option to automatically add hard links (not always a good idea), or ... right click the "Selected Files" and select "Add all matches" for all found (and hopefully verified by the user) matches, or select "Add match for selected row" for one specific row.
While testing, I found it a PITA to manually keep adding the hard links 😉

As far as I'm concerned the word impossible does not exist. Now that said I just tested the directory rename. I did the add dir and the the drag and drop and both worked perfectly. Might suggest a popup that goes away on it's own telling peeps that it may take some time to populate. Not realizing that earlier is why I thought it froze. If I had realized that all I would of had to do was remove FBI once everything populated, search for it, and then select the episode and rename all six episodes at the same time.

Good point - having seen the screen so many times during testing, I forget folks may or may not notice the header changing of "Selected Files".
Well, at least that is what it is supposed to do haha 😉 ...

Showing a popup, indicating RMTV is busy is something I've thought about a few times in the past, but never found an elegant way to do it.
Adding it to me "Things to explore" list though. Visual feedback is always important.

Your timing on this was pretty much perfect, cause i've been slowly going through shows and adding in the first air dates. This will make it so much faster. Example below:

Parent folder - Altered Carbon 2018

Subfolders - Altered Carbon Season 1, Altered Carbon 2

Video files - Altered Carbon 2018 S01E01 Out Of The Past, ETC...

Playlist file - Altered Carbon 2018 Season 1, ETC...
