I'm a keyboard person, so I use a lot of key combination to get things done, and one of them is COMMAND+Q to quit an application.

Unfortunately, when running a virtual machine in VMWare Fusion, comes with a little problem when it comes to my keyboard shortcut habits.
When for example running an application in a Windows virtual machine, I tend to press COMMAND+Q as well ... which close VMWare Fusion. Argh!

I already submitted a suggestion to VMWare to use the "press COMMAND+Q twice" approach as seen in Google Chrome, but I have no idea if they will implement this.

In the meanwhile you can disable COMMAND+Q in VMWare Fusion as follows:

  1. Start VMWare Fusion
  2. Go to Preferences
  3. Click on Keyboard & Mouse
  4. Select Fusion Shortcuts
  5. Uncheck " Quit "

Now you can start a virtual machine and try using " Command+Q" and you'll see ... it won't close VMWare Fusion.
