A friend of mine thought it to be a good idea to delete all emails in GMail's "Archive" folder, which of course delete pretty much all his emails (app. 20,000).
Naturally he freaked out but with some searching I found that Google offers a recovery feature to recover GMail emails from the last 30 days.
The feature, for free accounts anyway, is well hidden, but you can find it here: https://support.google.com/mail/workflow/9317561

Note that it assumes your GMail has been compromised, so it will ask for a password reset (check and update all your devices after you've done this).
Recovery is supposed to take up to 24 hours, and emails are restored in folders where they used to be and can also be found in "All Mails".
The recovery we did for ~20,000 emails took less than an hour.

Hope this is helpful to some one 😉

The "Deleted Items" was empty when I came checking after he had called me in a panic.
Not sure if he emptied the trash, or if his email application did.

The take away though is that:

1) All emails on GMail reside in "Archive" it seems
2) Google has a nice recovery feature
