When adding files with episode names, the episode names are not being renamed to the TV Show (TMDB) episode title. Is this a bug? It keeps the original episode name from the file instead of using the episode name from the TMDB database. See screenshot linked as I am not able to upload attachments... https://imgur.com/KpAxRXn
Seeing that you posted this twice; I've deleted the other one as this is the more appropriate topic (as you probably noticed).
Please share the format string you're using ... I've never seen this happen, so I suspect there may potentially be something wrong with the format string. Please also provide some of the original filenames (so i can do some tests).
Found another example that is easy to demonstrate. The problem seems to be that AutoDetect will always use TVDB episode titles even when TMDB is selected and displayed.
Here you can see that what is selected does NOT match the TMDB episode auto-rename:
And you can see when I do click on the TVDB episode list, what is AutoDetected matches TVDB:
Apologies for overlooking this thread. Its been a busy few days. 😊
* Autodetect will always search TVDB first, as it has the wider range of shows available.
However ... You can force autodetect matches with "hard links", which was intended for situations like this. Best way to do this is by searching your show, retrieve its episodes (so the show is in the database) and go to "Settings" - "Autodetect Options".
You can now enter a text that is used to match and a specific show with provider. Note that the show needs to be in the database to make a selection of course (otherwise the list would be insanely long).
Yet another way to do this is by doing a manual match (get show data, link it to a file, right click the file and choose "Add Match from selected row(s)"). It will the add this to that same "Hard Links" table.
I think there is a logic problem trying to add the match to anything OTHER than TVDB. For instance:
1. I type in Peacemaker in the search, and a long list appears.
2. I click on "Peacemaker (2022) TVMAZE" to select as the source for the rename. Note, no hard link has been created yet!
3. Now I drag a file into RMTV, but autodetect uses TVDB instead of what I had selected (TVMAZE), and the hard link is created with the show tied to TVDB instead of my preferred TVMAZE for this particular title.
4. I now have to go into Settings --> Autodetect Options, find Peacemaker, and try to switch to TVMAZE, but it only shows "Peacemaker (2022)" for TMDB and TVDB. I cannot select TVMAZE!
I think Autodetect should always RESPECT what is currently selected from the Search Results on the left window pane and not just default to TVDB. If there is no Search or Search Result on the left side, it makes sense to look at the Autodetect Hard Links to try to find a match. But usually, if I type in a search AND I select the source, as a user, I would expect the app to use what I selected to match the files I drop in the window.
Doing it this way makes building the Autodetect Options much easier for ANY new series.
(apologies for the late reply - I was on vacation)
Just did the following myself:
1. Search "Peacemaker", and select "Peacemaker (2022) [TVMAZE]". 2. Goto Settings - AutoDetect Option - Click "Add" - enter "Peacemaker" in the "Show title" column, and select "Peacemaker (2022) - TVMAZE:50603" in the "Link to Show" column.
As of now the TVMAZE version will be used for autodetect. And this works correctly.
The approach where you select a specific show on the left, is and was always intended for manual linking of show/episode/file (with autodetect disabled). Then and only then the selected show will be used and respected.
When using autodetect though, it will always assume (and this is what autodetect was intended for) that user drops potentially more (!) different shows/episodes on RMTV and therefor the show selected on the left has no value or purpose as the results can/will be mixed. Eg. the scenario where the episodes of this week of multiple shows are dropped on RMTV.
** Note: when going that route, and clicking the "Get Episodes" button, this will add this specific version to the database, which will make it accessible for AutoDetect.
Having said that, this is how autodetect searches for a match, which can be used for your preferred source if you keep in mind how autodetect works (autodetect is already a real pain to catch in code):
1) Search for a match in the hard links 2) Search for a match in de the local database (if both the TVDB and TVMAZE version exist in the database, this may result in choosing TVDB instead of TVMAZE) 3) And finally do a search query on TVDB, TMDB and TVMAZE (in that order IIRC).
Not sure how you noticed it using TVDB instead of TMDB (please let me know an example filename so I can double check if debugging is needed), but you can check under Settings - Show and Episode Info what shows are stored in the local database. If you see the TVDB there listed as well, then you can remove it so Autodetect won't (theoretically anyway) use it.
Side note (which may not be super interesting 😉 and not meaning anything bad with it, just background indo): I'm not using RMTV myself. I started it way back when (around 2006) as a teaching project, to teach a friend of mine to do software development in Delphi. Later I used it for an experiment project (late 2012) to try cross platform development under Lazarus Pascal. Right now I'm only keeping up with updates to help users keep using RMTV - which already consumes a lot of time.
@m3rocket Just something I noticed looking at you screenshot and my own screen, besides the previous tips I posted on how AutoDetect works:
The "Misunderstood: Predators Part 1" which shows as the new name "Misunderstood predators part 1" could be caused by your rename settings.
1) the ":" is removed by default as it is an illegale character in certain operating systems.
Under Settings - Miscellanious - Replace Special Characters you will find this line (you can remove it, but it may come with unexpected side effects with your file system).
2) "Predators Part 1" going to "predators part 1" is most likely due to your capitalization settings.
Under Settings - Renaming Rules - renaming Settings you'll see the option to change capitalization. You may want to try one or the other setting to match the capitalization you'd like to see,
