I was wondering why there are two RMTVS on my taskbar (Windows 10). Holding the mouse over either of them shows this:

Clicking the X to close the splash screen closes the program completely. Clicking either button on the taskbar brings up the main window. The splash screen is essentially hidden, but not.

Also, the download page says dark mode is macOS and Linux only (unfortunately), but the program seems to start in dark mode by default even on Windows, and then highlighted results and some text in the settings appear black on a dark background

Additionally, results from TVDB often fail to appear. Ever. Checked an earlier version, and TVDB results showed up right away.

The information box at the bottom left is misaligned with the buttons at the bottom of the screen, causing the information and its source to be partially obscured, unlike in past versions.

I edited my last comment with additional information, but lost everything because some "time-out" expired.

TVDB only appears (for anime) after the cleanup feature is turned off, and then it shows the title in Japanese, despite the English translation of the show being available on the site.

The results should all be in English unless they're not available.

The clean-up filter also has to be turned on and then back off again after each search. When turned off after closing the program, it's not off the next time the program is started.

@dex_luther Thanks for the feedback. Would have been better to start a new topic for this, but we'll go with this for now 😉

As of 2.3.0 a darkmode for Windows has been implemented (as mentioned on the RMTV page, I just added the Windows 10 version comment, to make it more complete based on this post) - since the widgetset for win32 does not support dark mode, a semi-fake dark mode had to be fabricated which does use certain API calls. However, it would have been good to report the exact Windows version. I've seen with one other user that older Windows 10 version are not quite doing things right, as certain API calls do not exists or work differently under the older Windows 10 version.

Note that on the preferences screen, at the bottom, you have a "disable darkmode" option for Windows users, so when dark mode doesn't work properly, light mode can be enforced.

Next, TVDB often fail to appear; Do you have examples that work with the old version but doesn't show with the new version? I don't think anything changed with the clean-up filter, but then again: it's been quite a long time that I have been working on and off on RMTV.

Not remembering that cleanup should be on or off: Please keep in mind that the setting in the main window is often only intended for a quick change while working on your files. To make it permanent, you'd have to change the setting in Preferences. (under the "Show and Episode Info" tab)

The information box at the bottom left is misaligned; Can't reproduce this under Windows or macOS? What version are you using?

Titles not in English: When doing a search with the new TVDB API (v4, where as the old one uses v2 which has been marked as deprecated for quite a while now) only the Japanese title appears. This is probably why the cleanup filter removes these entries as an English title was not returned. I may be overlooking something here of course, so I'll try to make some time this week to see if I can find something in the documentation (takes a bit of time). I've added this to my "To Do" list 😊

@hans

I'm on version 2.3.4.

The information box is always misaligned, but it is more obvious when the show's description is longer.

In past versions, the source was below the information box (above Quit). This was useful when show titles are very long and it's hard to see the (source) at the end. It might be related to the box being too low.

I've tried this on Windows 11, but cannot reproduce the issue - the buttons do not look the same either.
I'm assuming you're running under Windows, correct me if I'm wrong.
Is this an old Windows version? Eg. an old Windows 10 version maybe?

p.s.

- As you can see: the source is still in the same location as with previous versions - so the misaligned text box seems to be pushing it downwards.
- The current version is 2.3.5 (which I use for testing). I do not recall any changes from 2.3.4 -> 2.3.5 causing this, but maybe give it a try.

Forgot to look into this one. Found a fix, in a next release this should no longer be the case.

I've tried installing 2.3.5 three times from this link: https://www.tweaking4all.com/downloads/video/RenameMyTVSeries-2.3.5-Windows-x64-setup.exe

Each time I launch the program, it shows 2.3.4. When launching the program from the 2.3.5 installer, it shows 2.3.4 in the title, as does the about information.

And yes, all the things I mentioned in this post and all the above posts are from Windows 10:

@dex_luther Oh wow! Nice catch 👍 - silly mistake on my end. I've adapted my script that makes the installer for Windows to pick the right EXE.
I will try to upload a 2.3.5 (easy, but without the fix) or 2.3.6 today, hopefully with a fix for the up/down button issue (see if I can make a few hours time for this today).

@dex_luther Just uploaded 2.3.6 with most issues fixed.

The up/down button now works (on my Windows 11). This was caused by the sqlite.dll, which does not by default include the SQL statement using "UPDATE ... LIMIT ..." (reference) in pre-build binaries (which is not the case with Linux and macOS, and the previous older sql.dll I had used, not sure why they decided to exclude that option under windows).

I've also fixed the duplicate thumb showing in the taskbar and made sure this time the proper binary is included in the setup (modified the setup script).

Thanks again for reporting! Let me know if I missed something or goofed up 😉

p.s. not yet fixed in 2.3.6:

  • I do not yet know how to fix the text box issue - its very strange to see this happening considering that in code it is forced to hook to the items below. (please let me know if 2.3.6 shows this issue as well)
  • The Japanese TV show titles is something I need to spend some time on to test this with the API, which can be quite time consuming.

Can confirm that Version 2.3.6 installs (build 10). The double taskbar buttons no longer occur.
Not sure what you mean by the up/down button fix.

Edit: Oh and Dark Mode works a little better. I had to turn off automatically choosing an accent color based on my background, and then choose a lighter color. It's not perfect, but a lot more usable.

Thanks for confirming! 👍

I thought I had read in this thread that the up/down buttons under Selected Episodes and Selected Files didn't work properly under Windows - which was indeed a bug. My bad, and it's fixed.

Does the issue with the text box still occur? (as I cannot reproduce it)

It still happens. A Windows 10 issue? I believe you said you were on 11 and it doesn't happen, right?
