In some cases, specially with non-uPNP firewalls, ports might need to be forwarded or ports need to be set in the QoS (Quality of Service) settings. According to the Apple Knowledge base (article ht4245), the following ports and port ranges are being used:

80 (TCP)
443 (TCP)
3478 - 3497 (UDP)
5223 (TCP)
16384 - 16387 (UDP)
16393 - 16402 (UDP)
