I have noticed that with 2.3.5 that when adding a file or files to be renamed it can sit for a very very very long time before showing what the file will be name to. Sometimes if I deliberately crash RMTS and relaunch it it will be almost instantly retrieve the information and be ready to rename.
Firstly I wanted to thank @hans for this fantastic program! I have been using it for about a year or so and it is great, does exactly what I need it to do :)
@zliced13
Thanks for adding this program to Fedora COPR. I'm currently using this program on Linux Mint but thinking of hopping to Fedora soon. I'll definitely want to keep using this program if I jump to Fedora.
I've spun up a VM and tried to test it out, but I'm a bit confused by the process. I'm pretty new to Fedora and this whole COPR thing.
This is what I've done so far:
Firstly I added the repository via this command:
sudo dnf copr enable zliced13/YACR
I didn't install rename-my-tv-series as per your first post as I noticed newer versions under different package names on your repository. Version 2.3.5-1 instead of 2.0.10-1
So firstly I tried to install renamemytvseries-qt but found it had graphical issues (buttons disappearing when hovering mouse etc). I removed that and then installed renamemytvseries-gtk, but found it wouldn't open at all.
I removed everything again and tried a few more installs/remove with no luck. I found the combination that worked for me was:
1) add COPR repository
2) install rename-my-tv-series
3) remove rename-my-tv-series
4) install renamemytvseries-gtk
This then gave me a working version of 2.3.5 with no graphical issues.
I did notice when I installed rename-my-tv-series, it seemed to install a lot more dependencies than renamemytvseries-qt or renamemytvseries-gtk did. Not sure why or if that could be the cause of the issues I had when trying to install new version initially.
Here is my DNF history if that helps:

Apologies if I've missed something obvious here or I'm doing something wrong. Like I said I'm quite new to Fedora (and Linux in general). Just thought I'd make this post in case it helps someone else out who faced similar issues while trying to install on Fedora using your COPR repository.
Unable to install "rmtv.ttf" font.
Tried installing in "~/.local/share/fonts and "~/.fonts". Both failed.
Please manually install the rmtv.ttf font and restart this one time so the installed font becomes available.
Can you try 2.3.9 (just released). Not sure if it addresses the issue. Could be regression as I have to juggle multiple platforms. Been a busy day (preparing to go on a trip).
(reading this again: I doubt 2.3.9 will address this issue, just running out of time to look into this today - please remind me if it takes to long to see a fix)
@hans LOL nothing beats a good cheat. I just downloaded the 2.3.9 release, extracted it, copied it's rmtv.ttf to those two folders, launched 2.3.8 and looks to be working perfectly again. It launched without any issue that I can see.
FYI are you sure those are the correct folders for the fonts? I ask cause other than the rmtv.ttf file there is nothing else in either of those two folders. Not really important since the cheat got RMTV working again.
Have a safely and productive / enjoyable trip.
EDIT:
I just verified that all's good by renaming 4 files, but looks like 2.3.8 reset all the settings back to default, and under format what you have in the box is only for a single episode not what it would look like with a second episode.
both lines Stargate SG-1 S02E07 Message in bottle instead of the second line being Stargate SG-1 S02E07E08 Message in a bottle - Family
@cccp64 Funny side note ... nothing changed in 2.3.9 concerning the fonts. I just released 2.3.10 (for Linux only) and that one additionally checks "/usr/share/fonts/TTF/". Hope this makes it easier.
As for the font paths: I have to rely on Linux users feedback, since Linux is not my daily driver and I find it very confusing how different distros make such a mess of file locations. Would have been easier (like Windows and macOS do) if Linux would allow TTF's next to the executable. Would be cleaner as well, when removing the application as the TTF would then be deleted as well (assuming the application directory would be removed). Anywho, just my thoughts 😉
As for the settings reset: Yikes, that's not good. For Linux the settings will be stored in the same directory as the executable. Not sure if that is the appropriate path (Windows and macOS have specific locations for preferences files and data). What would be the universal path for Linux?
p.s. some common formats can be found in the dropdown menu:
Now assuming settings would be saved, the second button allows you to bookmark your preferred format strings (in case you switch between formats often) - including custom format strings.
Thanks for 2.3.10 much appreciated. Now as for 2.3.9 I didn't initially install it cause I wanted to see if I could fix the issue with 2.3.8. I couldn't tell you why the settings got reset since the update from 2.1.8 to 2.3.5 went without a hitch. Only things were to adjust a couple of setting that 2.1.8 didn't have. Now when I did allow the 2.3.9 update it installed perfectly without resetting the settings.
AS for the BS with different flavors of Linux I'm right there with you. I have said for two decades now if the community hadn't splintered Linux would now be so far ahead of the rest of the OS's both desktop and mobile that those OS's wouldn't be around any longer.
As for the format I was just giving you an FYI. I corrected it on my end to my liking already.
As for preferences I'm assuming saving a copy of the preferences.ini is what I want just incase?
Thanks again for a fantastic program. Enjoy the "coffee".
Haha, I would have expected issue migrating from 2.1.8 to 2.3.x (significant database changes due to the new TVDB API and the support for different types of episode orders).
Totally agree -- It really is a shame that the Linux community makes it harder for developers to create applications. So far been one of the reasons why Linux isn't my daily driver, and I keep finding issues with each release because "something" changed yet again in one or the other distro. Already went from Manjaro, to Mint, to Ubuntu, to Debian and back to Manjaro because stuff broke in said distros. And this while I do believe Linux has such great potential. If they would gotten their act together decades ago, they'd (potentially) be the dominating OS by now.
As a (hobby) developer, I strive to make my apps available on all major platforms, but it is getting less and less interesting (read: more annoying) to develop/distribute for Linux. I honestly considered dropping Linux support with the 2.3.x release as I ran into some serious challenges (from my perspective) for example with GTK2 and QT5 (not to mention GTK3 or QT6 - which was even worse of an experience).
Nothing you and I can fix though ... makes me wonder if it is an idea to copy the macOS approach when it comes to standard paths. Not saying macOS is better, but it would come with some consistency for Linux like Operating Systems. (we all know Apple won't change anything haha) Oh well. For now I rely on Linux users providing feedback (asking Mr. Google doesn't always come with helpful answers due to distro differences or me not knowing or even understanding the fine details).
As for settings: yes that would be preferences.ini. Having said that: the database (LocalData.sqlite3) would hold the TV shows and episodes.
Come to think of it: one reason why settings could get lost in the past was when I removed the "portable" test voor Linux. This could have changed the settings path from one version to another (which I should have thought of, but totally forgot) and result in "default" settings. Can't remember what I did - right now it is stored in ~/.config if I remember correctly.
Anywho - thank you for compliment. Great to see it used in the Linux community. 😊
I honestly don't know if saving a copy of the database is worth it cause when you drop a show into RMTV it generally finds it so fast it's not funny, so rebuilding the database should take all that long.
Now as for Linux distros I'm running BlueStar as my default and really enjoy it, but I have gotten comfortable enough with Arch based distros I don't need the dev(s) creating fixes to be applied when doing updates. I can typically puzzle out any issue I run across now. Now for you I would strongly recommend Garuda cause of the patches and fixes the devs put out. As for Mint it really is a downgrade from Arch based distros. Manjaro I would avoid cause they are weeks behind and they only really focus on what's in it for them.
Oh cool, well I'll have to give Bluestar a try then 👍 Thanks for the tip!
Mint was years ago that I last used it, and have used Debian until 13.x ruined it for me. Since its a virtual machine, I like it to minimalistic (so the overload of unused apps in Ubuntu is what I avoid).
Funny that you mention the retrieval speed: RMTV was just an ongoing experiment based on another experiment that started about 22 years ago haha. In those days the database was needed since 4Mb/s Internet was not fast 🤣
Thank you for helping out and thanks again for the tip!
I was actually suggesting Garuda for you cause they do have a minimal version called Garuda KDE Lite and they handle most of what breaks by pushing fixes themselves during garuda-update.
Sorry for not telling you all about this much earlier. A while ago I added 3 new packages that install the newest version of RMTV. These packages are renamemytvseries, renamemytvseries-gtk and renamemytvseries-qt. I should have informed everyone about this sooner.
OpenElec The ultimate XBMC distribution. No operating system required, comes completely in a compact form with Embedded Linux, for Intel, AMD, AppleTV, Raspberry Pi, etc.
HandBrake Great tool for ripping DVD's and converting video.
