By accident I ran into this solution to make the Lazarus IDE look much more crispy ... by enabling Retina.

The trick is pretty simply, simply open a Terminal window and type:

defaults write lazarus.freepascal.ide AppleMagnifiedMode no

p.s. this seems to work for (most) other blurry non-retina applications as well. Just make sure to replace "lazarus.freepascal.ide" with the identifier of the app you'd like to change. When you right click an Application, choose "Show Package Content" then under "Content" you'll find a Info.plist file where you find that identifier under the "CFBundleIdentifier" key (you can open it with a plain text editor).

For those who'd like to apply this in their own application, read How to restart my own application.
