I am trying to program an LED strip to complete the Cylon Eye program. What arduino board do you recommend? Would the Mini USB Arduino Nano V3.0 ATmega328P Module CH340G 5V 16M Micro-controller board work for this program?

Hi Taymmoore,

sorry for the late reply, ...

I would recommend starting with an Arduino Uno, and I really recommend using real original Arduino boards, especially when you're beginning with Arduino boards. I'm not sure which model you're referring to (do you have a link?).

The original Arduino models can be found here: Arduino Products, older Arduino boards.

If you meant this little guy; it looks by the specs that it should work, but one of the first comments I noticed was saying that special drivers are needed, which does happen with Chinese clones (this is not an original Arduino product). One user reports there that he used it to replace his Arduino Uno, so it should work, but be prepared to run into potential driver issues.

Hans,

Thanks for your response. I'm trying to build a prototype so I am looking for the least expensive way to program led lights to run the cylon eye reliably without errors when mass produced. Do you have any other recommendations?

You're welcome

First off I'd start with a genuine Arduino Uno, they are just a little bit more expensive than the Chinese clones, but you'll save yourself a lot of potential problems while trying to get familiar with Arduino's.

As for the LED strips, I have several times purchases these LED strands at AliExpress (I always pick the Black PCB + 5m 60 IP65 - the look great and have good protection). This supplier has proven to be reliable and I never had any issues with the strands they supplied.

As for the power supply, I have purchased several different ones, all of the 5V and 10A which provides more power than needed. The look like the typically black bricks you get with laptops and such. See these listings at Amazon - mine were around $14 at the time. I've attached an example picture of these. I don't like the other models with the mesh metal casing - but I'm sure those will work great as well.
