ApplePi-Baker v1.9.1 update

ApplePi-Baker v1.9.1 update
   22

ApplePi-Baker has been updated again.

This version addresses a potential issue with restoring large SD cards (sync kernel buffers), and compression when making backups of larger SD Cards.

The mechanism to “eject” and SD card has internally been revamped as well. Additional, the option “Auto Eject after Restore” has been implemented.

To show that ApplePi-Baker is still working, a small indicator has been placed in the upper right corner of the window.
Additionally the status refreshrate has been increased.

Visit the ApplePi-Baker article to download the latest version and to leave comments.

      Hi Peter,

the latest version can always be found with the original article: ApplePi-Baker or under the category Raspberry Pi on the Downloads page.
An old version can be found there as well, however, under El Capitan, the old version will not work properly.

If you run into any issues, please feel free to post a comment under the ApplePi-Baker article – it’s followed by a lot of users, who are often nice enough to assist as well (I try to read and respond to all comments at least once a day).

I can’t log into the ApplePi-Baker v1.9.1 update. When I enter my Admin password it says incorrect Sudo password.

I’m logged under admin and rebooted back as admin and reloaded v1.9.1.

I’m using a Mac MacBook6,1 with a Intel Core 2 Duo, Processing at  2.26 GHz on Mac OS X 10.6.8.

How do I get the app to recognise my login?

      Hi Tim,

since you’re running a rather old Mac OS X version, you might want to consider trying the old 1.5.1 version.
Since I no longer have access to 10.6.x, I’m unable to test if ApplePi-Baker works well under that OS.

As for 1.9.1; The login “procedure” has not changed in the last few versions, so if an older one used to work (1.8 for example), then I can not even begin to guess what’s going wrong. In the next version I will include messages for the Console application so users can see a little more of what might be going wrong (even though it might still not help).

Did you test something like this on the command line (Terminal):

      sudo ls

      just to test sudo access.

Thanks, that’s excellent advice, I’ll have to use 1.5.1 and my sudo password does work in my mac command line. Thanks

The older version should work just fine with your Mac OS X version  – kind-a the reason why I left it there, just in case.

        Hope this works for you!

      Hi Lloyd!

I carefully assume this is some kind of local issue. Several users, including myself, run 1.9.1 successfully under OS X El Capitan. Which doesn’t mean that it’s all perfect … so let’s see if we can find a solution (or possible problem/bug).

I’d start with testing a different SD card, and in case of a microSD card definitely test a different microSD-card adapter (I have had mixed results when it comes to the reliability of these adapters – they seem rather unreliable). You could, in case you don’t have any extra SD cards laying around, test with a USB thumb drive as well.

Also make sure that there are no other applications trying to access the SD card while working with it (Disk Utility, AntiVirus software, or cleaning software similar to BlueHarvest).

Optionally, try to do a “Prepare NOOBS” before writing an image – please let me know if that worked, so I can modify ApplePi-Baker to do this automatically in the next version.

      P.s.
It’s better to post questions under the original ApplePi-Baker article.
More users will see your question and might post hints/tips and help a hand.

      Almost forgot:

If your IMG file is compressed (gzip, zip, etc); try decompressing it first so that you have a uncompressed IMG file (just to eliminate potential issues with compression).

      Hi Jay!

When running Yosemite, the old one should work for sure (1.5.x).
Theoretically the new one should work as well, but I have not been able to test it (do not have a Mac with Yosemite available).
The code in the new version should still cover Yosemite though.

    Hans,

Love your fine software. I just upgraded to v1.9.3 which lost something I count on a lot. I am running MacOS Sierra 10.12 Beta (16A270f) and when I opened your software I see two SD Cards. I have two SD Cards on my system, one is a 256GB in a Nifty Drive on my MBPr that I use for additional Disk space, the other is an 8GB for the Raspi. You used to give disk sizes, but I had no idea which one was which. If I formatted the wrong one, I would have a bit of a mess on my hands (yes I use TM but still). Could you add either the drive label, like finder shows, or the disk size in the disk selection window? I had to resort to the terminal and df -H to see which disk is which. Many thanks….

    regards,

      Thank you Barry for reporting!

I’ll look at this right away, I can imagine how unpractical that is.
I’ll report here when I have fixed this issue (if I can reproduce and fix it haha).

I could confirm the issue, and fixed it right away.
Go ahead and try 1.9.4, which is now available for download.

      Thanks again for reporting Barry!
      Can’t believe I overlooked that one …

      Hi Vince,

you may want to check the original ApplePi-Baker article (the link is included in the text above, or go there directly: here).
Since an IMG file is a copy or backup of an original “disk” or SD card, you’ll need to use the “Restore Backup” button.

Thanks for the question though – I’ll take it in consideration with the next version as an improvement on the user experience.
