For those who have upgraded their Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 ... you might be in for a surprise.

During your upgrade, Windows saved a copy of your "old" windows in C:Windows.old, which (in my case) takes 18 Gb of disk space. This is useful when you want to revert back to the previous version of Windows, but if you never plan to do that: better remove it and reclaim some serious disk space.

Removing it is easy:

Right click the C: drive,
choose "properties",
click "Disk Cleanup" on the "General" tab,
in the Disk Cleanup window click "Clean up system files", check "Previous Windows Installation(s)" and click "OK".
