Also note: on other operating systems this may not fit that well, and the text to the left of it can grow beyond the width of the 'Selected Episodes' list as well 😞 
I will try to squeeze it somewhere in Preferences though.

Not a bad suggestion, although you're the first one to mention this, so I do not think there are many users running into this particular scenario - I could be very wrong though.

I'll add this to my "things to consider" list ... 
However, there is very little space left in the Preferences window, which is already loaded with options that can confuse some of the users.
So I'll consider it for a future release if I can find space for it.

When adding directories, there are times where sub-directories contains non-episode video and/or audio material and at times these directories contains huge amounts of files which are added to the Selected Files pane.  The ability to enable or disable sub-directory recursion would prevent the previously described situation.     Slower workarounds:

  • manually remove via the GUI (can be painful)
  • use OS file browser to move the shows to it's own directory or the extra directories to a parent directory.
  • Select only episodes/directories that contains only episode files and drag and drop into GUI
